The Queen City Big Band is a community big band located in the Bangor/Brewer
area of Maine. The band is made up of music majors and teachers as well
as other local musicians who share an interest in this style of music.
The band performs a mix of big band arrangement styles from classics like
"In The Mood" to more modern charts like "Blue Rondo A
La Turk".The band rehearses every other Tuesday at the Brewer Middle
School in Brewer Maine. The rehearsals start at 6:00PM and last about
90 minutes. Performances are done in moderation (5-6 per year) so as to
keep things interesting but not overload it's members. Music selections
range in difficulty in hopes to challenge the better musicians, but not
overwhelm the less experienced players. We strive to keep the band exciting
and fun and hope to influence younger musicians to continue this great
style of music.Since forming in 2000 the band has performed at many local
events including the Bangor StateFair, Bangor Waterfront Concert Series,
Lincoln Homecoming, Ellsworth Summer Concert Series, dances and benefit
concerts. We also have performed for several area Middle and High School
band programs. We are looking forward to this coming year to perform at
local festivals and bring the big band sound to as many people who will
listen. We have a talented and energetic group of musicians as well as
a top notch director and hope to see you at our next performance. Brian Nadeau is the director of The Queen City Big Band. He is well known
throughout Maine as a premier professional trumpet player. He currently
plays lead trumpet for the Al Corey Big Band and several years back was
offered the lead trumpet slot for The Glenn Miller Orchestra. He is also
a noted jazz and brass clinician who has taught numerous students and
clinics throughout Maine. He has also been responsible for helping bring
world-famous trumpet players to Maine such as Jim Manley. Brian strives
to make this community band sound every bit as good as any professional
big band in New England and with his enthusiasm and direction, who knows?
We may get there. |
